The Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) - CPC40110 - is a nationally recognised qualification that addresses the knowledge and skills required in areas that relate to the construction and management of residential and commercial low-rise building projects.

It is the minimum technical qualification requirement in most states in Australia for becoming a building contractor and operating a small to medium construction business.

During this course, you will learn about Building Codes and Standards, Legal Requirements of operating a building business, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Quantities and Estimating, Planning Construction Work, Preparing Building Contracts, Supervising Construction work, Structural Principles of Construction, Construction Site Surveying and Setting-out and the Financial Management of Small Businesses.

Study Options

Online/Classroom Study with support 

This course is offered via an online platform with fortnightly face-to-face classes. Studying online has never been easier or more convenient than through ARC’s online learning centre. You can take each step of your qualification with your designated trainer and receive online learning support from ARC’s student support teams.

Course Details

Duration
It is intended that this modality (online and onsite classroom) will be delivered over a six-month period. Students are provided with this time frame, however there is flexibility to take a longer period to complete if required as the program is self-paced.

Resources
You will be supplied with all relevant learning materials, assessments and assessment templates required to complete the course, including instructions on how to navigate the online platform.

Assessments
You will be required to complete a range of assessments during the course. These include theoretical and skill assessments. As the course is delivered online, access to a computer will be required for completing all assessments.

Completion
By successfully completing this course, you will have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to receive the qualification CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building). All certification documentation is issued directly by ARC Institute of Business to you.

Entry Requirements

There are no listed entry requirements for this qualification, however students are expected to:

  • Demonstrate an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills (to read and interpret building plans, specifications, contracts, codes and standards.
  • Have undertaken the required general induction training program before being able to enter a work site.
  • Comply with ARC Institute of Business’ code of conduct requirements, directions on work, and health and safety matters.

Experience within the building and construction industry would be helpful but not essential.

Recognition of Prior Learning

ARC Institute of Business offers recognition of prior learning (RPL) for this qualification. If you have experience and are currently working as a building contractor or supervisor you may qualify for RPL. Once you have enrolled, you can request to participate in an RPL Assessment.

To attain recognition, you will need to compile and present evidence that shows you can meet the variety of requirements as outlined in the qualification.
