The Certificate II in Drainage - CPC20712 - is a nationally recognised qualification that addresses the knowledge and skills required in the planning, installation and maintenance of below ground sanitary and stormwater drainage systems covering:
 - Stormwater or sanitary drainage - installation, maintenance, testing and repairing
 - Installation of domestic treatment plants

It will provide the career pathway for you to obtain a tradesperson's licence as a qualified drainer.

The course is designed for those people currently working within the plumbing, building and mining industry as drainers and want to be assessed for the qualification based on their current experience and skill levels.

ARC Institute of Business offers this course via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Units of Competency

There are 22 units of competency in this qualification. The units have been chosen in consultation with industry experts along with our trainers who draw upon real-life experience and examples to ensure the knowledge you gain is practical and applicable to your role. Study Options


This course is offered via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). It has been developed for current industry workers with experience working as a drainer.

Course Details

The actual duration may end up lower or higher depending on your particular circumstances but students are provided with a time frame of six to eight weeks to gather their evidence portfolio, however there is flexibility to take a longer period to complete if required as the program is self-paced.

Remember, the quicker you collect and submit all required evidence to your assessor the quicker the assessment can be completed

The assessment will consist of evidence reviews, reference checks and conversations with a qualified assessor to discuss/demonstrate your knowledge of the different aspects of the trade. It may also include workplace visits and observations.

By successfully completing the RPL assessment, you will have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to receive the CPC20712 Certificate II in Drainage qualification.

All certification documentation is issued directly by ARC Institute of Business.

Entry Requirements

You must be able to demonstrate a minimum of two years relevant experience to validate your ability to competently and successfully undertake the range of drainage tasks.

You should also possess an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills sufficient enough to read and interpret building plans, specifications, codes and standards as well as undertake a variety of calculations.

You must also have have a current first aid certificate or have obtained a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency HLTFA211A Provide basic emergency life support (or equivalent).
